Early markers of spring in the North aren't told by drastic climactic change or sudden sunny weather. Spring sneaks up on us here. And sometimes the early signs are barely noticeable. Yet, to the seasoned northern veteran, the washing away of the salt rock and their multi-layered remnants is a small but significant marker. It reassures us that it is actually getting warmer, ever slowly, and that a satisfying bloom may be just around the bend.
